| CWU Union Learning Centre in Northallerton hits 100 students in 6 months | |||||||

Since joining the course I can now do a number of things. It has broadened my knowledge of computer work and helped me within my roles as a Security officer and a Granddad” |
Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Forward said: "Yorkshire Forward is committed to encouraging people to learn new skills. Community-based learning centres play a vital role in providing local facilities for people of all ages. Enrolling 100 students in just six months is a great achievement by the people involved with the Communication Workers Union Learning Centre." On the 21st of June 2006,Chief Executive of Yorkshire Forward Tom Riordan visited the CWU "Come With Us and Learn Centre" in Northallerton, North Yorkshire to give out certificates to those students who have completed the IT basic course and to present a bottle of Fairtrade wine to the 100th Student to enrol Mrs Maureen Beauchamp who works the dept of mental health in Northallerton

Sheila Buckton said The IT course has been most enjoyable. Before joining I was nervous of using the computer but now find I am much more confident and have been able to incorporate my skills on the computer at work Maureen Beauchamp said I started the Spanish course with my husband Steve 8 weeks ago and we have both found it very interesting and informative. Our teacher Gladys is very good and the facilities at the BT Depot are very good. Julie Barker & Margaret Eason who enrolled for the digital camera class said As new owners of digital cameras we were delighted when we were able to join the basic course, it was enjoyable, friendly and a practical approach made it easy for everyone involved to share ideas and experiences. Tracy Taylor said I had not been on a computer before so when I heard about the computer course here I decided to join. Since joining I have gained more confidence. I really enjoyed the course, meeting new people and have learnt a great deal. I feel that the course is run extremely well and the tutors are very friendly and helpful. We have a very good class who are always willing to help each other out and I would strongly recommend this course to anyone interested in starting on computers or just brushing up. Jackie & David Holdroyd who live in Northallerton said We enjoy classes at the CWU learning centre because it is convenient, the facilities are good , parking is easy and there is a very friendly atmosphere. Tutors on both courses have been knowledgeable, incredibly patient and encouraging. Stockton Adult Education Service is delighted to be working in partnership with BT and CWU to promote learning in the workplace. Learner progress since September 2005 has been fantastic with learners achieving qualifications whilst discovering that learning can be fun as well as informative!
